Korean ETRI to Join Futuremark Handheld BDP and License 3DMarkMobile ES 2.0
ETRI adopts 3DMarkMobile ES 2.0 to establish OpenGL ES 2.0 performance standards within Korean telecommunications equipment.
Espoo, Finland July 3, 2007 Futuremark Corporation, the worlds leading provider of handheld and mobile performance analysis software and services, including OpenGL ES 1.1 and 2.0, OpenVG 1.0 and Java M3G tools, announced today that the Korean government funded Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) has enrolled in Futuremarks Handheld Benchmark Development Program (BDP) and has formally licensed 3DMarkMobile ES 2.0. This move will provide the Korean telecommunications equipment research group with tools that will be used to establish OpenGL ES 2.0 3D performance standards for Korean mobile gaming industry and all future handheld products to be sold in the Korean marketplace.
ETRI is a Korean government funded non-profit research organization with a 25 year history of being at the forefront of advanced and emerging technologies in the telecommunications industry. ETRIs research institute has successfully developed information technologies such as TDX-Exchange, High Density Semiconductor Microchips, Mini-Super Computer (TiCOM), and Digital Mobile Telecommunication System (CDMA).
ETRI actively supports the Korean mobile gaming industry by finding and showcasing capabilities of next generation mobile gaming technologies such as OpenGL ES. The organization has a mission of researching emerging technologies and delivering their findings to promote growth within the telecommunications industry. Utilizing Futuremarks benchmarks and BDP membership, ETRI will create a fundamental competency enabling them to define hardware requirements for optimal performance of gaming technologies on mobile devices.
